✧ Uthman used to bathe once every day since he became Muslim. One day I prepared water for his wudu' for prayer. When he had performed wudu', he said: 'I intended to relate to you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of Allah ﷺ,' then he said: 'I have decided not to relate it to you.' Al-Hakam b. Abi al-'As said: 'O Commander of the Faithful, if it is good, we will act upon it, or if it is evil, we will avoid it.' He said: 'Then I will relate it to you. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ performed wudu' like this wudu', then said: Whoever performs wudu' like this wudu', and perfects the wudu', then stands for prayer and completes its bowing and prostration, it will atone for what is between it and the next prayer, as long as he does not commit a mortal sin (meaning a major sin).'
