✧ Uthman b. Affan said while he was delivering a sermon on his pulpit: I am going to tell you a hadith I heard from the Messenger of God ﷺ. Nothing prevented me from telling you except the concern for you. I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: "Guarding a night in the cause of God is better than a thousand nights in which its night is spent in prayer and its day is spent in fasting."

machine translationKahmas b. al-Ḥasan narrated it from Muṣʿab b. Thābit, and there is disagreement about it from him. Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān al-Muqriʾ and Jaʿfar b. Sulaymān al-Ḍubaʿī narrated it from Kahmas, from Muṣʿab b. Thābit, from ʿAbdullāh b. al-Zubayr, from ʿUthmān; Muslim b. Ibrāhīm said this from Jaʿfar. Khālid b. Yazīd al-Muqriʾ said, from Jaʿfar, from Kahmas, from Muṣʿab b. Thābit b. ʿAbdullāh b. al-Zubayr, from ʿUthmān, as a mursal report. Likewise said ʿAbdullāh b. Idrīs, Abū Isḥāq al-Fazārī, Ghundar and Rawḥ b. ʿUbādah, from Kahmas, and this is the correct version.
