حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ جَعْفَرٍ حَدَّثَنَا شُعْبَةُ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ قَالَ قَالَ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ شَقِيقٍكَانَ عُثْمَانُ يَنْهَى عَنِ الْمُتْعَةِ وَعَلِيٌّ يَأْمُرُ بِهَا فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ لِعَلِيٍّ قَوْلًا ثُمَّ قَالَ

كَانَ عُثْمَانُ يَنْهَى عَنِ الْمُتْعَةِ، وَعَلِيٌّ يَأْمُرُ بِهَا، فَقَالَ عُثْمَانُ لِعَلِيٍّ: قَوْلًا، ثُمَّ قَالَ عَلِيٌّ: لَقَدْ عَلِمْتَ أَنَّا قَدْ تَمَتَّعْنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ، قَالَ: أَجَلْ وَلَكِنَّا كُنَّا خَائِفِينَ.

✧ Uthman used to prohibit mut'a, while Ali ordered it. Uthman said to Ali: "A word." Then Ali said: "You know that we performed mut'a with the Messenger of God ﷺ." He said: "Yes, but we were afraid."
