حَدَّثَنَا إِسْمَاعِيلُ أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ بْنِ الْأَعْرَجِ قَالَ سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ فَقَالَ
سَأَلْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ عَنْ يَوْمِ عَاشُورَاءَ ؟ فَقَالَ: إِذَا رَأَيْتَ هِلَالَ الْمُحَرَّمِ فَاعْدُدْ، فَإِذَا أَصْبَحْتَ مِنْ تَاسِعَةٍ فَأَصْبِحْ صَائِمًا. قَالَ يُونُسُ: فَأُنْبِئْتُ عَنِ الْحَكَمِ أَنَّهُ قَالَ [فَقُلْتُ ]: أَكَذَاكَ صَامَ مُحَمَّدٌ ﷺ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ

✧ I asked Ibn Abbas about the day of Ashura? He said: When you see the crescent of Muharram, then count; and when you reach the morning of the ninth, then begin fasting in the morning. Yunus said: I was informed from al-Hakam that he said [then I said]: Is that how Muhammad ﷺ fasted? He said: Yes.
