حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ أَخْبَرَنَا ابْنُ أَبِي ذِئْبٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ قَالَدَخَلَ الْمِسْوَرُ بْنُ مَخْرَمَةَ عَلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ يَعُودُهُ فِي مَرَضٍ مَرِضَهُ فَرَأَى عَلَيْهِ ثَوْبَ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ كَانُونٌ عَلَيْهِ تَمَاثِيلُ فَقَالَ
دَخَلَ الْمِسْوَرُ بْنُ مَخْرَمَةَ عَلَى ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ يَعُودُهُ فِي مَرَضٍ مَرِضَهُ، فَرَأَى عَلَيْهِ ثَوْبَ إِسْتَبْرَقٍ، وَبَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ كَانُونٌ عَلَيْهِ تَمَاثِيلُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ: يَا أَبَا عَبَّاسٍ، مَا هَذَا الثَّوْبُ الَّذِي عَلَيْكَ ؟ قَالَ: وَمَا هُوَ ؟ قَالَ: إِسْتَبْرَقٌ. قَالَ: وَاللهِ مَا عَلِمْتُ بِهِ، وَمَا أَظُنُّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ نَهَى عَنْهُ إِلَّا لِلتَّجَبُّرِ وَالتَّكَبُّرِ، وَلَسْنَا بِحَمْدِ اللهِ كَذَلِكَ، قَالَ: فَمَا هَذَا الْكَانُونُ الَّذِي عَلَيْهِ الصُّوَرُ ؟ قَالَ ابْنُ عَبَّاسٍ: أَلَا تَرَى كَيْفَ أَحْرَقْنَاهَا بِالنَّارِ.

✧ Al-Miswar b. Makhrama entered upon Ibn Abbas to visit him during an illness he had, and saw on him a garment of heavy silk brocade, and in front of him a brazier with figurines on it. He said to him: "O Abu Abbas, what is this garment you are wearing?" He said: "And what is it?" He said: "Heavy silk brocade." He said: "By Allah, I did not know it, and I do not think the Messenger of Allah ﷺ forbade it except for arrogance and pride, and we, praise be to Allah, are not like that." He said: "Then what is this brazier with images on it?" Ibn Abbas said: "Do you not see how we burned it in the fire?"
