حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ أَخْبَرَنَا الثَّوْرِيُّ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَيْمُونٍ قَالَسَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ يَقُولُ

كَانَ أَهْلُ الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ لَا يُفِيضُونَ مِنْ جَمْعٍ حَتَّى يَرَوُا الشَّمْسَ عَلَى ثَبِيرٍ، وَكَانُوا يَقُولُونَ: أَشْرِقْ ثَبِيرُ كَيْمَا نُغِيرُ، فَأَفَاضَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ قَبْلَ طُلُوعِ الشَّمْسِ.

Translation

  4. ʿAmr b. Maymūn Qālasamiʿt ʿUmar b. al-Khaṭṭāb

✧ The people of the Jahiliyya would not depart from Muzdalifa until they saw the sun on Thabir, and they used to say: 'Shine, Thabir, so that we may hasten.' So the Messenger of God ﷺ departed before sunrise.
