✧ Najdah al-Haruri, when he rebelled during the turmoil of Ibn al-Zubair, sent to Ibn Abbas asking him about the share of the near relatives: to whom do you think it belongs? He said: “It is for us, for the kin of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ allotted it to them. Umar had offered us something from it which we considered less than our due, so we returned it to him and refused to accept it. What he had offered them was to help their newlyweds, pay the debts of their debtors, and give to their poor, and he refused to give them more than that.”
