حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو كَامِلٍ حَدَّثَنَا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا ابْنُ شِهَابٍ وَيَعْقُوبُ حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ خَارِجَةَ بْنِ زَيْدِ بْنِ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أُمِّ الْعَلَاءِ وَهِيَ امْرَأَةٌ مِنْ نِسَائِهِمْ قَالَ يَعْقُوبُ أَخْبَرَتْهُ

بَايَعَتْ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ. فَآلَتْ عُثْمَانَ بْنَ مَظْعُونٍ: فِي السُّكْنَى. قَالَ يَعْقُوبُ: طَارَ لَهُمْ فِي السُّكْنَى حِينَ اقْتَرَعَتِ الْأَنْصَارُ عَلَى سُكْنَى الْمُهَاجِرِينَ قَالَتْ أُمُّ الْعَلَاءِ: فَاشْتَكَى عُثْمَانُ بْنُ مَظْعُونٍ عِنْدَنَا، فَمَرَّضْنَاهُ حَتَّى إِذَا تُوُفِّيَ أَدْرَجْنَاهُ فِي أَثْوَابِهِ. فَدَخَلَ عَلَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ: رَحْمَةُ اللهِ عَلَيْكَ أَبَا السَّائِبِ، شَهَادَتِي عَلَيْكَ، لَقَدْ أَكْرَمَكَ اللهُ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: وَمَا يُدْرِيكِ أَنَّ اللهَ أَكْرَمَهُ ؟ قَالَتْ: فَقُلْتُ: لَا أَدْرِي، بِأَبِي أَنْتَ وَأُمِّي، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: أَمَّا هُوَ فَقَدْ جَاءَهُ الْيَقِينُ مِنْ رَبِّهِ، وَإِنِّي لَأَرْجُو لَهُ الْخَيْرَ. وَاللهِ مَا أَدْرِي وَأَنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ مَا يُفْعَلُ بِي! قَالَ يَعْقُوبُ: بِهِ. قَالَتْ: فَقُلْتُ: وَاللهِ لَا أُزَكِّي أَحَدًا بَعْدَهُ أَبَدًا فَأَحْزَنَنِي ذَلِكَ، فَنِمْتُ فَأُرِيتُ لِعُثْمَانَ عَيْنًا تَجْرِي، فَجِئْتُ إِلَى رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَأَخْبَرْتُهُ ذَلِكَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: ذَاكَ عَمَلُهُ.

✧ She gave the oath of allegiance to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. The lot fell to 'Uthman b. Maz'un concerning lodging. Ya'qub said: The lot fell to them regarding lodging when the Ansar cast lots for the lodging of the Emigrants. Umm al-'Ala' said: 'Uthman b. Maz'un fell ill among us, so we nursed him until when he died, we wrapped him in his garments. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ entered upon us, and I said, "May Allah have mercy on you, Abu al-Sa'ib. My testimony concerning you is that Allah has honored you." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "And what makes you know that Allah has honored him?" She said: I said, "I do not know, may my father and mother be your ransom." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "As for him, certainty has come to him from his Lord, and I hope for good for him. By Allah, I do not know—even though I am the Messenger of Allah—what will be done with me!" Ya'qub said: "with him." She said: I said, "By Allah, I will never declare anyone pure after him, ever." That grieved me, so I slept and saw a flowing spring for 'Uthman. I came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and informed him of that. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, "That is his deeds."
