حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدٌ يَعْنِي ابْنَ عَمْرٍو عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ قَالَتْ
لَقَدْ كَانَ يَأْتِي عَلَى آلِ مُحَمَّدٍ الشَّهْرُ مَا يُرَى فِي بَيْتٍ مِنْ بُيُوتِهِ الدُّخَانُ قُلْتُ: يَا أُمَّهْ، وَمَا كَانَ طَعَامُهُمْ ؟ قَالَتِ: الْأَسْوَدَانِ التَّمْرُ وَالْمَاءُ، غَيْرَ أَنَّهُ كَانَ لَهُ جِيرَانُ صِدْقٍ مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ، وَكَانَ لَهُمْ رَبَائِبُ، فَكَانُوا يَبْعَثُونَ إِلَيْهِ مِنْ أَلْبَانِهَا.

✧ A month would pass over the household of Muhammad and no smoke would be seen in any of his houses. I said, “O mother, what was their food?” She said, “The two black things: dates and water, except that he had truthful neighbors among the Ansar who had milch animals, and they would send him some of their milk.”
