Translation

✧ So I went to her and found her praying the forenoon prayer. I said, 'I will sit until she finishes,' but they said, 'Far from it.' I said to her doorkeeper, 'How should I ask permission to enter upon her?' He said, 'Say: Peace be upon you, O Prophet, and the mercy of God and His blessings. Peace be upon us and upon the righteous servants of God. Peace be upon the mothers of the believers—or the wives of the Prophet ﷺ—peace be upon you all.' He said, 'I entered upon her and asked her, and she said, "The brother of Azib—what an excellent household." I asked her about continuous fasting, and she said, "On the day of Uhud, the Messenger of God ﷺ and his companions fasted continuously, and it became difficult for them. When they saw the new moon, they informed the Prophet ﷺ, and he said, 'If it had lasted longer, I would have increased for you.' It was said to him, 'You do that' or something similar. He said, 'I am not like you; my Lord feeds me and gives me drink at night.' And I asked her about the two rak'ahs after Asr, and she said, 'The Messenger of God ﷺ sent a man to collect charity. She said, 'He came to him at noon, and the Messenger of God ﷺ prayed Zuhr and was occupied with distributing it until he prayed Asr, then he prayed them.' She said, 'You should adhere to night prayer, for the Messenger of God ﷺ never abandoned it. If he was ill, he would recite while sitting. I know that one of you says, "It is enough for me to perform what is prescribed for me," but how can that be?' And I asked her about the day that is disputed in Ramadan, and she said, 'That I fast one day of Sha'ban is dearer to me than that I break fast one day of Ramadan.'" He said, 'Then I left and asked Ibn Umar and Abu Hurayrah, and each of them said, "The wives of the Prophet ﷺ know more about that than we do."'
