حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحَنَفِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا الضَّحَّاكُ بْنُ عُثْمَانَ عَنْ بُكَيْرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ الْأَشَجِّ قَالَ دَخَلَ عَوْفُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ هُوَ وَذُو الْكَلَاعِ مَسْجِدَ بَيْتِ الْمَقْدِسِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عَوْفٌ عِنْدَكَ ابْنُ عَمِّكَ فَقَالَ
ذُو الْكَلَاعِ أَمَا إِنَّهُ مِنْ خَيْرِ أَوْ مِنْ أَصْلَحِ النَّاسِ فَقَالَ عَوْفٌ أَشْهَدُ لَسَمِعْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ لَا يَقُصُّ إِلَّا أَمِيرٌ أَوْ مَأْمُورٌ أَوْ مُتَكَلِّفٌ

✧ Dhu al-Kala'—indeed he is among the best or among the most righteous of people. 'Awf said, 'I bear witness that I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say, 'None should preach except a commander, one commanded, or a pretender.'
