حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ الْمُقْرِئُ حَدَّثَنَا حَيْوَةُ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبُو هَانِئٍ عَنْ عَمْرِو بْنِ مَالِكٍ حَدَّثَهُ
أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ فَضَالَةَ بْنَ عُبَيْدٍ يَقُولُ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا صَلَّى بِالنَّاسِ خَرَّ رِجَالٌ مِنْ قَامَتِهِمْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ لِمَا بِهِمْ مِنَ الْخَصَاصَةِ وَهُمْ مِنْ أَصْحَابِ الصُّفَّةِ حَتَّى يَقُولَ الْأَعْرَابُ إِنَّ هَؤُلَاءِ مَجَانِينُ فَإِذَا قَضَى رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ الصَّلَاةَ انْصَرَفَ إِلَيْهِمْ فَقَالَ لَهُمْ لَوْ تَعْلَمُونَ مَا لَكُمْ عِنْدَ اللهِ لَأَحْبَبْتُمْ لَوْ أَنَّكُمْ تَزْدَادُونَ حَاجَةً وَفَاقَةً قَالَ فَضَالَةُ وَأَنَا مَعَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ يَوْمَئِذٍ

✧ He heard Faḍālah b. ʿUbayd say: When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ led the people in prayer, men would collapse from their standing in prayer because of the severe poverty they suffered, and they were among the people of the Ṣuffah, until the Bedouins would say, 'These people are mad.' When the Messenger of Allah ﷺ finished the prayer, he turned to them and said, 'If you knew what you have with Allah, you would love to increase in need and poverty.' Faḍālah said, 'I was with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ that day.'
