✧ I came to Madinah and sat with some elders in the mosque of the Prophet ﷺ. An old man came leaning on a staff of his. The people said: Whoever would like to look at a man from the people of Paradise, let him look at this one. He stood behind a pillar and prayed two rak'ahs. I went to him and said: Some of the people said such-and-such. He said: Paradise belongs to Allah, Mighty and Majestic; He admits to it whomever He wills. I saw a dream at the time of the Prophet ﷺ. I saw as if a man came to me and said: Go. I went with him and he took me along a great path. A road appeared on my left and I wanted to take it, but he said: You are not one of its people. Then a road appeared on my right and I took it until I came to a slippery mountain. He took my hand and threw me, and there I was on its summit. I could not settle or hold firm. There was a pillar of iron at its summit with a ring of gold. He took my hand and threw me until I grasped the handle. He said: Hold fast. I said: Yes. He struck the pillar with his foot and I held fast to the handle. I related it to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he said: You saw good. As for the great path, it is the gathering place. As for the road that appeared on your left, it is the path of the people of the Fire, and you are not one of its people. As for the road that appeared on your right, it is the path of the people of Paradise. As for the slippery mountain, it is the abode of the martyrs. As for the handle that you held fast to, it is the handle of Islam, so hold fast to it until you die. He said: So I hope to be one of the people of Paradise. He said: And he is 'Abdullah b. Salam.
