حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجٌ حَدَّثَنَا لَيْثٌ حَدَّثَنِي عُقَيْلٌ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ عَنْ أَبِي سَلَمَةَ بْنِ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ عَنْ مُعَاوِيَةَ بْنِ الْحَكَمِ السُّلَمِيِّ
أَنَّهُ قَالَ لِرَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ: أَرَأَيْتَ أَشْيَاءَ كُنَّا نَفْعَلُهَا فِي الْجَاهِلِيَّةِ، كُنَّا نَتَطَيَّرُ، قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: ذَلِكَ شَيْءٌ تَجِدُهُ فِي نَفْسِكَ فَلَا يَصُدَّنَّكُمْ، قَالَ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، كُنَّا نَأْتِي الْكُهَّانَ، قَالَ: فَلَا تَأْتِ الْكُهَّانَ

✧ He said to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: “What do you think about things we used to do in the pre-Islamic era; we used to practice augury.” The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “That is something you find in yourself, so let it not hinder you.” He said: “O Messenger of Allah, we used to go to soothsayers.” He said: “Do not go to soothsayers.”
