Translation

✧ Salman came to the Messenger of God ﷺ when he arrived in Madinah with a table upon which were fresh dates, and he placed it before the Messenger of God ﷺ. The Messenger of God ﷺ said, "What is this, O Salman?" He said, "Charity for you and your companions." He said, "Take it away; we do not eat charity." So he removed it. The next day he came with the like of it and placed it before him. He said, "What is this, O Salman?" He said, "Charity for you and your companions." He said, "Take it away; we do not eat charity." So he removed it. Then he came the next day with the like of it, carrying it, and placed it before him. He said, "What is this, O Salman?" He said, "A gift for you." The Messenger of God ﷺ said to his companions, "Spread out." Then he looked at the seal on the back of the Messenger of God ﷺ and believed in him. He had belonged to the Jews, so the Messenger of God ﷺ purchased him for such-and-such dirhams on condition that he plant palm trees and Salman work on them until they bore fruit. He said, "The Messenger of God ﷺ planted the palm trees except for one palm tree which Umar planted. The palms bore fruit that year, but that one palm did not. The Messenger of God ﷺ said, 'What is the matter with this one?' Umar said, 'I planted it, O Messenger of God.'" He said, "So the Messenger of God ﷺ uprooted it and replanted it, and it bore fruit that year."
