Translation

✧ Ask the Messenger of Allah ﷺ: What do you think about a man who finds another man with his wife and kills him; is he to be killed in retaliation for him, or what should he do? He said: So 'Asim asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ found fault with such questions. He said: Then 'Uwaymir met him and said: What did you do? He said: You have not brought me any good; I asked the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and he found fault with such questions. So 'Uwaymir said: By Allah, I will go to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and ask him. He came to him and found that revelation had been sent down concerning them both. He said: So he called them both and pronounced the mutual cursing (li'an) between them. He said: Then 'Uwaymir said: If I retain her, O Messenger of Allah, I would have lied against her. He said: So he separated from her before the Messenger of Allah ﷺ commanded him. He said: Thus it became a precedent for the two who curse each other. He said: Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: Observe her; if she gives birth to a child with very dark skin, large black eyes, and large buttocks, I think he has spoken the truth; but if she gives birth to a red-skinned child, as if he were a small lizard, then I think he is lying. He said: And she gave birth to a child of the disliked description.
