✧ We went out with the Messenger of God ﷺ for a funeral. When we returned, the caller of a woman from Quraysh met us and said: O Messenger of God, so-and-so invites you and those with you to a meal. He turned aside, and we turned aside with him. We sat in the places of boys before their fathers. Then food was brought, and the Messenger of God ﷺ placed his hand, and the people placed their hands. The people noticed that he was chewing his morsel without swallowing it. They lifted their hands, but they were heedless of us. Then they remembered and took hold of our hands. A man began striking the morsel with his hand until it fell, then they held our hands, watching what the Messenger of God ﷺ would do. He spat it out and threw it away. He said: I find the meat of a ewe taken without its owner's permission. The woman stood up and said: O Messenger of God, I had it in mind to gather you and those with you for a meal. I sent to al-Baqīʿ but found no ewe for sale. ʿĀmir b. Abī Waqqāṣ had bought a ewe yesterday from al-Baqīʿ. I sent to him asking for a ewe in al-Baqīʿ, but none was found. It was mentioned to me that you bought a ewe, so send it to me. My messenger did not find him but found his family, and they handed it to my messenger. The Messenger of God ﷺ said: Feed it to the prisoners.

machine translationʿĀṣim b. Kulayb narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Abū Yūsuf al-Qāḍī narrated it from Abū Ḥanīfah, from ʿĀṣim b. Kulayb, from Abū Burdah, from Abū Mūsā, and he erred in it (wahima fīhi). The correct version is from ʿĀṣim b. Kulayb, from his father, from a man of the Anṣār, from the Prophet ﷺ.
