✧ The most enviable of people in my sight is a believing servant of light provision, with a share of prayer, who obeys his Lord, excels in his worship in secret, is obscure among the people, not pointed at with fingers, and whose livelihood is bare sufficiency—and whose livelihood is bare sufficiency. He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ began tapping with his two fingers, and whose livelihood is bare sufficiency—and whose livelihood is bare sufficiency. His death comes quickly, his mourners are few, and his inheritance is little.

machine translationWhen these men come together in a chain of transmission, that hadith is the product of their own hands. It seems he relied on the statement of Abū Mushir about ʿAlī and that of al-Bukhārī about Ibn Zaḥr, and God knows best. By this statement he means two men: ʿUthmān b. Abī al-ʿĀtikah and ʿAlī b. Yazīd.
