حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ هَارُونَ أَخْبَرَنَا سَلِيمُ بْنُ حَيَّانَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُوغَالِبٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا أُمَامَةَ يَقُولُ
إِذَا وَضَعْتَ الطُّهُورَ مَوَاضِعَهُ قَعَدْتَ مَغْفُورًا لَكَ، فَإِنْ قَامَ يُصَلِّي كَانَتْ لَهُ فَضِيلَةً، وَأَجْرًا، وَإِنْ قَعَدَ قَعَدَ مَغْفُورًا لَهُ، فَقَالَ لَهُ رَجُلٌ: يَا أَبَا أُمَامَةَ أَرَأَيْتَ إِنْ قَامَ، فَصَلَّى أَتَكُونُ لَهُ نَافِلَةً ؟ قَالَ: [لَا] إِنَّمَا النَّافِلَةُ لِلنَّبِيِّ ﷺ، كَيْفَ تَكُونُ لَهُ نَافِلَةً وَهُوَ يَسْعَى فِي الذُّنُوبِ وَالْخَطَايَا ؟ تَكُونُ لَهُ فَضِيلَةً وَأَجْرًا.

✧ When you place the purification in its proper places, you sit forgiven. If he stands to pray, he has merit and reward; and if he sits, he sits forgiven. A man said to him, “O Abu Umamah, do you think that if he stands and prays, it will be a supererogatory prayer for him?” He said, “[No.] The supererogatory prayer is only for the Prophet ﷺ. How can it be supererogatory for him while he is striving in sins and errors? It will be merit and reward for him.”
