✧ I came to the Messenger of God ﷺ while he was in the mosque, and I sat with him. He said [to me], “O Abu Dharr, have you prayed?” I said, “No.” He said, “Get up and pray.” He said, “So I got up and prayed, then I came to him and sat with him.” He said to me, “O Abu Dharr, seek refuge in God from the evil of the devils among humans and jinn.” He said, “I said, ‘O Messenger of God, are there devils among humans?’” He said, “Yes, O Abu Dharr. Shall I not guide you to a treasure among the treasures of Paradise?” He said, “I said, ‘Yes, may my father and mother be your ransom.’” He said, “Say: There is no might and no power except with God, for it is a treasure among the treasures of Paradise.” He said, “I said, ‘O Messenger of God, what is prayer?’” He said, “A good established matter; whoever wishes may do more, and whoever wishes may do less.” He said, “I said, ‘What is fasting, O Messenger of God?’” He said, “A loan that will be repaid.” He said, “I said, ‘O Messenger of God, what is charity?’” He said, “Multiplied many times over, and with God there is more.” I said, “Which is best, O Messenger of God?” He said, “Effort from one of little means, or a secret given to the poor.” I said, “Which verse that God, Mighty and Majestic, sent down to you is greatest?” He said, “God, there is no god but He, the Living, the Sustainer,” until he completed the verse. I said, “Which of the prophets was first?” He said, “Adam.” I said, “Was he a prophet, O Messenger of God?” He said, “Yes, a prophet who was spoken to.” I said, “How many messengers are there, O Messenger of God?” He said, “Three hundred and fifteen, a great multitude.”
