Translation

✧ I came to Ibn 'Abbas while he was reclining at Zamzam, so I sat with him, and he was an excellent companion. I said: "Tell me about the day of 'Ashura'!" He said: "About which aspect do you ask?" I said: "About its fast, which day should I fast?" He said: "When you see the crescent of Muharram, then count, and when you wake up on the morning of the ninth, then begin fasting from it!" I said: "Is that how Muhammad ﷺ used to fast it?" He said: "Yes."
