حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ حَدَّثَنَا مِسْعَرٌ عَنْ عُبَيْدِ اللهِ ابْنِ الْقِبْطِيَّةِ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ جَابِرَ بْنَ سَمُرَةَ قَالَ
كُنَّا نَقُولُ خَلْفَ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا سَلَّمْنَا السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ يُشِيرُ أَحَدُنَا بِيَدِهِ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَنْ شِمَالِهِ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ مَا بَالُ الَّذِينَ يَرْمُونَبِأَيْدِيهِمْ فِي الصَّلَاةِ كَأَنَّهَا أَذْنَابُ الْخَيْلِ الشُّمْسِ أَلَا يَكْفِي أَحَدَكُمْ أَنْ يَضَعَ يَدَهُ عَلَى فَخِذِهِ ثُمَّ يُسَلِّمَ عَنْ يَمِينِهِ وَعَنْ شِمَالِهِ

✧ We used to say behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ when we gave salutation: 'Peace be upon you, peace be upon you,' one of us gesturing with his hand to his right and to his left. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'Why is it that those who throw their hands in prayer as if they were the tails of restive horses? Is it not enough for one of you to place his hand on his thigh and then give salutation to his right and to his left?'
