✧ On the Day of Badr, he said: The Prophet ﷺ looked at his companions, who were three hundred and some, and he looked at the polytheists, and they were a thousand and more. The Prophet ﷺ faced the qiblah, then stretched out his hands, wearing his cloak and waist-wrap, then said, 'O Allah, where is what You promised me? O Allah, fulfill what You promised me. O Allah, if You destroy this band of the people of Islam, You will never be worshiped on earth.' He said, 'He continued seeking help from his Lord, Mighty and Majestic, and supplicating until his cloak fell. Abu Bakr came to him, took his cloak and put it back on him, then embraced him from behind, then said, "O Prophet of Allah, enough of your earnest plea to your Lord, for He will surely fulfill what He promised you." Allah, Mighty and Majestic, revealed: "When you sought help of your Lord, and He answered you, 'I will reinforce you with a thousand angels following one another.'" On that day when they met, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, defeated the polytheists. Seventy men of them were killed and seventy men of them were taken captive. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ consulted Abu Bakr, Ali, and Umar. Abu Bakr said, 'O Prophet of Allah, these are the sons of uncles, kinsmen, and brothers. I think you should take ransom from them, so that what we take from them will be strength for us against the disbelievers, and perhaps Allah will guide them, and they will be a support for us.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, 'What do you think, O Ibn al-Khattab?' He said, 'I said, "By Allah, I do not think as Abu Bakr thinks, but I think you should enable me to deal with so-and-so, a relative of Umar, so that I strike his neck; enable Ali to deal with Aqil so that he strikes his neck; and enable Hamzah to deal with so-and-so, his brother, so that he strikes his neck, until Allah knows that there is no softness in our hearts for the polytheists. These are their champions, their leaders, and their commanders."' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ inclined to what Abu Bakr said and did not incline to what I said, so he took ransom from them. The next day, Umar said, 'I went early to the Prophet ﷺ, and there he was sitting with Abu Bakr, and they were both weeping. I said, "O Messenger of Allah"...
