✧ From the companion of the Prophet ﷺ or from a man from the companion of the Prophet ﷺ, that he was riding on a donkey and stumbled. So he said (to the donkey), "May the devil be cursed!" (The Prophet) said, "Do not say, 'May the devil be cursed,' for if you say, 'May the devil be cursed,' he becomes greater. Instead, say, 'In the name of Allah,' and he will be minimized until he becomes like a fly."

machine translationʿĀṣim al-Aḥwal narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Ḥammād b. Salamah narrated it from ʿĀṣim al-Aḥwal, from Abū Tamīmah al-Hujaymī, as a mursal report from the Prophet ﷺ; the name of Abū Tamīmah is Ṭarīf b. Mujālid. Zuhayr b. Muʿāwiyah differed from him and narrated it from ʿĀṣim, from Abū Tamīmah, from the one who rode behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, or from someone who narrated to him from the one who rode behind the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Al-Thawrī and ʿAlī b. Mushir narrated it from ʿĀṣim, from Abū Tamīmah, from the one who rode behind the Prophet ﷺ. Khālid al-Ḥadhdhāʾ likewise narrated it from Abū Tamīmah, and that is the correct version.
