✧ I heard the Prophet of God ﷺ say: There was a servant among the servants of God, to whom God gave wealth and children. He did not profess any religion to God. He remained until, when one lifetime of his had passed and another remained, he remembered. Then he knew that he would never store up any good with God. He called his sons and said: 'What kind of father do you know me to be?' They said: 'The best, O our father.' He said: 'By God, I will not leave with any of you wealth that is from me except that I take it from him, and you must do with me what I command you.' He said: He took a covenant from them, by my Lord, and said: 'If not, then when I die, throw me into the fire until I become charcoal, then crush me.' He said: It is as if I were looking at the Messenger of God ﷺ while he said, motioning with his hand on his thigh: 'Then scatter me in the wind, perhaps I will elude God.' He said: By the Lord of Muhammad, they did that to him when he died. Then he was brought in the best form he had ever been, and presented to his Lord. He said: 'What made you face the fire?' He said: 'Fear of You, O my Lord.' He said: 'I certainly hear you as a fearful one.' So he was forgiven.
