✧ Thaqif were allies of Banu Uqayl. Thaqif captured two men from the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and the companions of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ captured a man from Banu Uqayl, and with him the she-camel al-Adba was seized. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ came to him while he was in bonds, and he said: 'O Muhammad, O Muhammad.' He said: 'What is your matter?' He said: 'Why have you taken me, and why have you taken the foremost of the pilgrims?' in awe of that. He said: 'I took you because of the crime of your allies, Thaqif.' Then he turned away from him, and he said: 'O Muhammad, O Muhammad.' The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was merciful and tender, so he came to him and said: 'What is your matter?' He said: 'I am a Muslim.' He said: 'If you had said that while you had control of your affair, you would have succeeded completely.' Then he turned away from him, and he called him: 'O Muhammad, O Muhammad.' He came to him and said: 'What is your matter?' He said: 'I am hungry, so feed me, and thirsty, so give me drink.' He said: 'This is your need.' He said: So he was ransomed for the two men. A woman of the Ansar was captured, and al-Adba was seized with her. The woman was in bonds, and one night she slipped out of the bonds and went to the camels. Whenever she approached a camel it bellowed, so she left it until she came to al-Adba, and it did not bellow. He said: And it was a trained she-camel. She sat on its hindquarters, then urged it, and it set off. They became aware of her and pursued her, but she eluded them. She vowed that if Allah, Blessed and Exalted, saved her on it, she would certainly slaughter it. When she reached Madinah, the people saw her and said: 'Al-Adba, the she-camel of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ!' She said: 'I vowed that if Allah, Blessed and Exalted, saved me on it, I would certainly slaughter it.' They went to the Prophet ﷺ and mentioned that to him, and he said: 'Glory be to Allah! How badly she has repaid it. If Allah, Blessed and Exalted, saved her, she would slaughter it. There is no fulfillment of a vow in disobedience to Allah, and no vow in what a servant does not possess.'
