✧ We were sitting in the prayer area on the day of Adha, and the Messenger of God ﷺ came to us and greeted the people, then said: The first rite of your day this is the prayer. He said: He stepped forward and prayed two rak'as, then said the salam, then faced the people and was given a bow – or a staff – and leaned on it. He praised God and extolled Him, commanded them and forbade them, and said: Whoever among you has hurried a slaughter, it is only meat he has fed his family; slaughter is after the prayer. My maternal uncle Abu Burda b. Niyar stood up to him and said: I hurried the slaughter of my sheep, O Messenger of God, so that food might be prepared for us to gather over when we return, and I have a jadha'a of goats that is more ample than what I slaughtered. Will it suffice for me, O Messenger of God? He said: Yes, and it will not suffice for anyone after you. He said: Then he said: O Bilal. He said: He walked and the Messenger of God ﷺ followed him until he came to the women and said: O gathering of women, give charity; charity is better for you. He said: I never saw a day with more severed bracelets, necklaces, and earrings than that day.
