✧ A man sat with the Prophet of God ﷺ with a gold ring on his hand. The Prophet ﷺ tapped his hand with a staff he had in his hand. Then the Prophet ﷺ became distracted from him, so the man threw away his ring. The Prophet ﷺ looked at him and said: "Where is your ring?" He said: "I threw it away." The Prophet ﷺ said: "I think we have caused you pain and made you incur a loss."

machine translationThis is a mistake. Rather, it is as Yūnus narrated it, from al-Zuhrī, from Abū Idrīs, from a man among the Companions of the Messenger of God ﷺ, from the Prophet ﷺ.
in مسند أحمد, p. 17961 - Dāraquṭnī
machine translationThe reliable memorizers (ḥuffāẓ) among the students of al-Zuhrī narrated it from him, from Abū Idrīs al-Khawlānī, that a man among the Companions of the Prophet ﷺ wore a ring, and this is the correct (ṣaḥīḥ) version.
in مسند أحمد, p. 17961
