ʿUqbah b. ʿĀmir al-Juhanī from the Prophet ﷺ

حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّحْمَنِ حَدَّثَنَا مُعَاوِيَةُ يَعْنِي ابْنَ صَالِحٍ عَنْ رَبِيعَةَ عَنْ أَبِي إِدْرِيسَ الْخَوْلَانِيِّ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَ وحَدَّثَهُ أَبُو عُثْمَانَ عَنْ جُبَيْرِ بْنِ نُفَيْرٍ عَنْ عُقْبَةَ بْنِ عَامِرٍ قَالَ

كَانَتْ عَلَيْنَا رِعَايَةُ الْإِبِلِ فَجَاءَتْ نَوْبَتِي، فَرَوَّحْتُهَا بِعَشِيٍّ، فَأَدْرَكْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ قَائِمًا يُحَدِّثُ النَّاسَ، فَأَدْرَكْتُ مِنْ قَوْلِهِ: مَا مِنْ مُسْلِمٍ يَتَوَضَّأُ فَيُحْسِنُ الْوُضُوءَ، ثُمَّ يَقُومُ فَيُصَلِّي رَكْعَتَيْنِ مُقْبِلًا عَلَيْهِمَا بِقَلْبِهِ وَوَجْهِهِ إِلَّا وَجَبَتْ لَهُ الْجَنَّةُ. فَقُلْتُ: مَا أَجْوَدَ هَذِهِ ! فَإِذَا قَائِلٌ بَيْنَ يَدَيَّ يَقُولُ: الَّتِي قَبْلَهَا أَجْوَدُ مِنْهَا. فَنَظَرْتُ فَإِذَا عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ قَالَ: إِنِّي قَدْ رَأَيْتُكَ جِئْتَ آنِفًا قَالَ: مَا مِنْكُمْ أَحَدٌ يَتَوَضَّأُ فَيُسْبِغُ الْوُضُوءَ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ: أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَهَ إِلَّا اللهُ وَأَشْهَدُ أَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ، إِلَّا فُتِحَتْ لَهُ أَبْوَابُ الْجَنَّةِ الثَّمَانِيَةُ، يَدْخُلُ مِنْ أَيِّهَا شَاءَ

✧ We were responsible for tending the camels, and my turn came, so I brought them back in the evening. I caught up with the Messenger of Allah ﷺ standing and speaking to the people, and I caught the following from his words: "There is no Muslim who performs ablution and does it well, then stands and prays two rak'ahs, facing them with his heart and his face, except that Paradise becomes obligatory for him." I said: "How excellent this is!" Then a speaker before me said: "The one before it is more excellent than it." I looked, and it was 'Umar b. al-Khattab. He said: "I saw you came just now." He said: "There is none of you who performs ablution and completes it fully, then says: 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger,' except that the eight gates of Paradise are opened for him, and he may enter through whichever of them he wishes."
