✧ I heard Kurayb b. Abraha while he was sitting with 'Abd al-Malik on his couch at Dayr al-Murran, and he mentioned arrogance. Kurayb said: I heard Abu Rayhana say: I heard the Messenger of God ﷺ say: No particle of arrogance will enter Paradise. Then a man said, 'O Prophet of God, I like to adorn myself with the fine leather of my whip and the lace of my sandal?' The Prophet ﷺ said: That is not arrogance. God, Mighty and Majestic, is beautiful and loves beauty. Arrogance is only when someone treats the truth as foolish and belittles people with his eyes—meaning by "julan" the strap of the whip and the lace of the sandal.
