حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الرَّزَّاقِ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ إِبْرَاهِيمَ التَّيْمِيِّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ أَبِي مَسْعُودٍ الْأَنْصَارِيِّ قَالَ

بَيْنَا أَنَا أَضْرِبُ غُلَامًا لِي، إِذْ سَمِعْتُ صَوْتًا مِنْ وَرَائِيَ: اعْلَمْ أَبَا مَسْعُودٍ ثَلَاثًا، فَالْتَفَتُّ، فَإِذَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، فَقَالَ: وَاللهِ، لَلَّهُ أَقْدَرُ مِنْكَ عَلَى هَذَا، قَالَ: فَحَلَفْتُ أَنْ لَا أَضْرِبَ مَمْلُوكًا أَبَدًا

Translation

✧ While I was beating a servant of mine, I heard a voice from behind me: Know, Abu Masud, three times. I turned, and there was the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, and he said: By Allah, Allah is more capable over this than you. He said: So I swore that I would never strike a slave again.
