✧ He came to the Messenger of God ﷺ, or he said: I witnessed the Messenger of God ﷺ, and a man came to him and said, "Are you the Messenger of God?" or he said, "Are you Muhammad?" He said, "Yes." The man said, "To what do you call?" He said, "I call to God, Mighty and Majestic, alone: the One who, when harm befalls you and you call upon Him, removes it from you; the One who, when a year of drought afflicts you and you call upon Him, makes vegetation grow for you; and the One who, when you are in a desolate land and lose your way, and you call upon Him, returns you." He said: The man became Muslim, then said, "Instruct me, O Messenger of God." He said, "Do not insult anything" or he said, "anyone" — al-Hakam was unsure — He said, "I have not insulted a camel or a sheep since the Messenger of God ﷺ instructed me." "And do not disdain any good deed, even if it is to meet your brother with a cheerful face while you speak to him; and pour from your bucket into the vessel of the one asking for water; and let your waist wrapper reach mid-calf, and if you refuse, then to the ankles; and beware of trailing the waist wrapper, for it is part of arrogance, and God, Blessed and Exalted, does not love arrogance."
