✧ We went out with Abu Bakr b. Abi Quhafah, whom the Messenger of God ﷺ had put in command over us. He said: We raided Fazarah. When we drew near the water, Abu Bakr ordered us and we halted for a rest. He said: When we had prayed the dawn prayer, Abu Bakr ordered us and we launched the raid. We killed at the water those we killed. Salamah said: Then I looked at a group of people, among them children and women, heading toward the mountain, while I was running in their tracks. I feared they would reach the mountain before me, so I shot an arrow, and it fell between them and the mountain. He said: Then I brought them, driving them to Abu Bakr ؓ until I came to him at the water. Among them was a woman of Fazarah wearing a worn leather garment, and with her a daughter of hers, one of the most beautiful of the Arabs. He said: Abu Bakr gave me her daughter as booty. He said: I did not uncover any garment of hers until I reached Madinah. Then I spent the night and did not uncover any garment of hers. He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ met me in the market and said to me: 'O Salamah, give me the woman.' He said: I said: 'O Messenger of God, by God, she has pleased me, and I have not uncovered any garment of hers.' He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ was silent and left me, until the next day the Messenger of God ﷺ met me in the market and said: 'O Salamah, give me the woman, may your father be for God's sake.' He said: I said: 'O Messenger of God, by God, she has pleased me, and I have not uncovered any garment of hers, but she is yours, O Messenger of God.' He said: The Messenger of God ﷺ sent her to the people of Makkah, who had Muslim captives in their hands, and the Messenger of God ﷺ ransomed them with that woman.
