✧ I came to the Messenger of God ﷺ and said: O Messenger of God, how does God bring the dead to life? He said: “Have you not passed through land of yours barren, then you passed through it fertile?” He said: Yes. He said: “Thus is the resurrection.” He said: O Messenger of God, what is faith? He said: “That you bear witness that there is no god but God alone without partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger, and that God and His Messenger are dearer to you than anything besides them, and that you be burned [in the Fire] is dearer to you than that you associate anything with God, and that you love a person of no relation whom you love only for God, Mighty and Majestic. If you are like that, then the love of faith has entered your heart, as the love of water by the thirsty enters on a scorching day.” I said: O Messenger of God, how can I know that I am a believer? He said: “There is no servant of my community—or this community—who does a good deed and knows it is good, and that God, Mighty and Majestic, will reward him well for it, nor does an evil deed and knows it is evil, and seeks God's forgiveness for it, and knows that none forgives except He, but that he is a believer.”
