حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ قال حَدَّثَنَا كَهْمَسٌ قَالَ حَدَّثَنِي سَيَّارُ بْنُ مَنْظُورٍ الْفَزَارِيُّ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ بُهَيْسَةَ قَالَتِ
اسْتَأْذَنَ أَبِي النَّبِيَّ ﷺ فَجَعَلَ يَدْنُو مِنْهُ وَيَلْتَزِمُهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، مَا الشَّيْءُ الَّذِي لَا يَحِلُّ مَنْعُهُ؟ قَالَ: الْمَاءُ. ثُمَّ قَالَ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، مَا الشَّيْءُ الَّذِي لَا يَحِلُّ مَنْعُهُ؟ قَالَ: الْمِلْحُ. قَالَ: يَا نَبِيَّ اللهِ، مَا الشَّيْءُ الَّذِي لَا يَحِلُّ مَنْعُهُ؟ قَالَ النَّبِيُّ ﷺ: أَنْ تَفْعَلَ الْخَيْرَ خَيْرٌ لَكَ، قَالَ: فَانْتَهَى قَوْلُهُ إِلَى الْمَاءِ وَالْمِلْحِ، قَالَ: وَكَانَ ذَلِكَ الرَّجُلُ لَا يَمْنَعُ شَيْئًا، وَإِنْ قَلَّ.

✧ My father asked permission of the Prophet ﷺ and began to draw near to him and cling to him, then he said: O Prophet of Allah, what is the thing that it is not lawful to withhold? He said: Water. Then he said: O Prophet of Allah, what is the thing that it is not lawful to withhold? He said: Salt. He said: O Prophet of Allah, what is the thing that it is not lawful to withhold? The Prophet ﷺ said: That you do good is better for you. He said: So his speech ended with water and salt. He said: And that man would not withhold anything, even if it was little.
