حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُبَارَكٍ قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا سَعِيدُ بْنُ يَزِيدَ وَهُوَ أَبُو شُجَاعٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ الْحَارِثَ بْنَ يَزِيدَ الْحَضْرَمِيَّ يُحَدِّثُ عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ رَبَاحٍ عَنْ نَاشِرَةَ بْنِ سُمَيٍّ الْيَزَنِيِّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ يَقُولُ فِي يَوْمِ الْجَابِيَةِ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ إِنَّ اللهَ ﷻ جَعَلَنِي خَازِنًا لِهَذَا الْمَالِ وَقَاسِمَهُ لَهُ ثُمَّ قَالَ
سَمِعْتُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ يَقُولُ فِي يَوْمِ الْجَابِيَةِ وَهُوَ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ: إِنَّ اللهَ عَزَّ وَجَلَّ جَعَلَنِي خَازِنًا لِهَذَا الْمَالِ وَقَاسِمَهُ لَهُ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: بَلِ اللهُ يَقْسِمُهُ وَأَنَا بَادِئٌ بِأَهْلِ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ، ثُمَّ أَشْرَفِهِمْ. فَفَرَضَ لِأَزْوَاجِ النَّبِيِّ [ ﷺ ] عَشَرَةَ آلَافٍ، إِلَّا جُوَيْرِيَةَ وَصَفِيَّةَ وَمَيْمُونَةَ. فَقَالَتْ عَائِشَةُ: إِنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ كَانَ يَعْدِلُ بَيْنَنَا، فَعَدَلَ بَيْنَهُنَّ عُمَرُ. ثُمَّ قَالَ: إِنِّي بَادِئٌ بِأَصْحَابِي الْمُهَاجِرِينَ الْأَوَّلِينَ؛ فَإِنَّا أُخْرِجْنَا مِنْ دِيَارِنَا ظُلْمًا وَعُدْوَانًا، ثُمَّ أَشْرَفِهِمْ. فَفَرَضَ لِأَصْحَابِ بَدْرٍ مِنْهُمْ خَمْسَةَ آلَافٍ، وَلِمَنْ كَانَ شَهِدَ بَدْرًا مِنَ الْأَنْصَارِ أَرْبَعَةَ آلَافٍ، وَلِمَنْ شَهِدَ أُحُدًا ثَلَاثَةَ آلَافٍ. قَالَ: وَمَنْ أَسْرَعَ فِي الْهِجْرَةِ أَسْرَعَ بِهِ الْعَطَاءُ، وَمَنْ أَبْطَأَ فِي الْهِجْرَةِ أَبْطَأَ بِهِ الْعَطَاءُ؛ فَلَا يَلُومَنَّ رَجُلٌ إِلَّا مُنَاخَ رَاحِلَتِهِ، وَإِنِّي أَعْتَذِرُ إِلَيْكُمْ مِنْ خَالِدِ بْنِ الْوَلِيدِ؛ إِنِّي أَمَرْتُهُ أَنْ يَحْبِسَ هَذَا الْمَالَ عَلَى ضَعَفَةِ الْمُهَاجِرِينَ، فَأَعْطَاهُ ذَا الْبَأْسِ وَذَا الشَّرَفِ وَذَا اللِّسَانِ فَنَزَعْتُهُ، وَأَمَّرْتُ أَبَا عُبَيْدَةَ بْنَ الْجَرَّاحِ. فَقَالَ أَبُو عَمْرِو بْنُ حَفْصِ بْنِ الْمُغِيرَةِ: وَاللهِ مَا أَعْذَرْتَ يَا عُمَرُ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ ! لَقَدْ نَزَعْتَ عَامِلًا اسْتَعْمَلَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، وَغَمَدْتَ سَيْفًا سَلَّهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، وَوَضَعْتَ لِوَاءً نَصَبَهُ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ، وَلَقَدْ قَطَعْتَ الرَّحِمَ وَحَسَدْتَ ابْنَ الْعَمِّ! فَقَالَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ: إِنَّكَ قَرِيبُ الْقَرَابَةِ، حَدِيثُ السِّنِّ، مُغْضَبٌ مِنَ ابْنِ عَمِّكَ

✧ I heard Umar b. al-Khattab say on the day of al-Jabiya while he was addressing the people: 'Allah, Mighty and Majestic, has made me a treasurer of this wealth and its distributor.' Then he said: 'Rather, Allah distributes it, and I am beginning with the family of the Prophet ﷺ, then the noblest of them.' So he allotted ten thousand to the wives of the Prophet ﷺ, except Juwayriya, Safiyya, and Maymuna. Aisha said: 'The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to treat us equally, so Umar treated them equally.' Then he said: 'I am beginning with my foremost Muhajir companions, for we were expelled from our homes unjustly and with enmity, then the noblest of them.' He allotted five thousand to the companions of Badr among them, and four thousand to those of the Ansar who had witnessed Badr, and three thousand to those who witnessed Uhud. He said: 'Whoever was early in the Hijra, his stipend came early, and whoever was late in the Hijra, his stipend came late. Let no man blame anything but the resting place of his mount. And I apologize to you regarding Khalid b. al-Walid. I commanded him to withhold this wealth for the weak among the Muhajirun, but he gave it to the strong, the noble, and the eloquent. So I removed him and appointed Abu Ubayda b. al-Jarrah.' Abu Amr b. Hafs b. al-Mughira said: 'By Allah, you have not excused yourself, O Umar b. al-Khattab! You have removed an agent whom the Messenger of Allah ﷺ appointed, sheathed a sword which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ unsheathed, and lowered a banner which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ raised. You have severed the ties of kinship and envied the cousin!' Umar b. al-Khattab said: 'You are a near relative, young in age, and angry on behalf of your cousin.'
