✧ That a Persian was a neighbor of the Prophet ﷺ, and his broth had the most fragrant smell of anything. One day he came to the Prophet ﷺ and gestured to him like this—and Ḥammād described with his hand—meaning 'Come.' He gestured to him while ʿĀʾishah was with me, making a sign. The man said with his hand like this—and Ḥammād described—meaning 'No.' The Prophet ﷺ said: 'Like this,' meaning 'No.' He said: Then he returned to him saying 'Come,' and he said the same thing twice or three times, saying: 'This is such and such,' [and saying] 'This is such and such.' And Ḥammād described [saying] 'This,' meaning 'No,' and saying 'This,' meaning 'No.' Then he said 'Like this,' meaning 'Get up, both of you.' So they went.
