✧ Among the Jews, when a woman menstruated, they expelled her from the house and did not eat with her or have intercourse with her. The Prophet's companions asked the Messenger of God ﷺ about that, so God, Mighty and Majestic, revealed: "And they ask you about menstruation. Say: It is harm, so keep away from women during menstruation" [Quran 2:222] until the end of the verse. The Messenger of God ﷺ commanded them to do everything except intercourse. The Jews said: "This man does not want to leave any of our affairs without contradicting us in it!" Then ʿAbbad b. Bishr and Usayd b. Hudayr came and said: "O Messenger of God, the Jews said such and such. Should we not have intercourse with them?" The face of the Messenger of God ﷺ changed until we thought he was angry with them. They left his presence, and a gift of milk was brought to the Prophet ﷺ, so he sent after them and gave them to drink. We thought that he was not angry with them.
