حَدَّثَنَا عَفَّانُ حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ أَخْبَرَنَا ثَابِتٌ عَنْ أَنَسٍ

أَنَّهُ قَالَ: مَا صَلَّيْتُ خَلْفَ رَجُلٍ أَوْجَزَ صَلَاةً مِنْ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ مُتَقَارِبَةً، وَكَانَتْ صَلَاةُ أَبِي بَكْرٍ مُتَقَارِبَةً، فَلَمَّا كَانَ عُمَرُ مَدَّ فِي صَلَاةِ الْفَجْرِ، قَالَ: وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا قَالَ: سَمِعَ اللهُ لِمَنْ حَمِدَهُ، قَامَ حَتَّى نَقُولَ: قَدْ أَوْهَمَ، وَكَانَ يَقْعُدُ بَيْنَ السَّجْدَتَيْنِ حَتَّى نَقُولَ: قَدْ أَوْهَمَ

Translation

✧ He said: I never prayed behind a man whose prayer was shorter and more compact than the Messenger of God ﷺ, and Abu Bakr's prayer was compact. When it was ʿUmar, he lengthened the dawn prayer. He said: When the Messenger of God ﷺ said: "God hears the one who praises Him," he stood until we would say: "He has forgotten." And he would sit between the two prostrations until we would say: "He has forgotten."
