حَدَّثَنَا هَاشِمٌ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ عَنْ ثَابِتٍ عَنْ أَنَسٍ قَالَ
بَعَثَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ بَسَبَسَةَ عَيْنًا يَنْظُرُ مَا صَنَعَتْ عِيرُ أَبِي سُفْيَانَ، فَجَاءَ وَمَا فِي الْبَيْتِ أَحَدٌ غَيْرِي وَغَيْرُ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ - قَالَ: لَا أَدْرِي مَا اسْتَثْنَى بَعْضَ نِسَائِهِ - فَحَدَّثَهُ الْحَدِيثَ، قَالَ: فَخَرَجَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَتَكَلَّمَ، فَقَالَ: إِنَّ لَنَا طَلِبَةً، فَمَنْ كَانَ ظَهْرُهُ حَاضِرًا فَلْيَرْكَبْ مَعَنَا، فَجَعَلَ رِجَالٌ يَسْتَأْذِنُونَهُ فِي ظَهْرٍ لَهُمْ فِي عُلُوِّ الْمَدِينَةِ، قَالَ: لَا إِلَّا مَنْ كَانَ ظَهْرُهُ حَاضِرًا، فَانْطَلَقَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ وَأَصْحَابُهُ حَتَّى سَبَقُوا الْمُشْرِكِينَ إِلَى بَدْرٍ، وَجَاءَ الْمُشْرِكُونَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: لَا يَتَقَدَّمَنَّ أَحَدٌ مِنْكُمْ إِلَى شَيْءٍ حَتَّى أَكُونَ أَنَا أُوذِنُهُ، فَدَنَا الْمُشْرِكُونَ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: قُومُوا إِلَى جَنَّةٍ عَرْضُهَا السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ، قَالَ: يَقُولُ عُمَيْرُ بْنُ الْحُمَامِ الْأَنْصَارِيُّ: يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، جَنَّةٌ عَرْضُهَا السَّمَاوَاتُ وَالْأَرْضُ ؟ قَالَ: نَعَمْ، فَقَالَ: بَخٍ بَخٍ، فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ: مَا يَحْمِلُكَ عَلَى قَوْلِكَ بَخٍ بَخٍ ؟ قَالَ: لَا وَاللهِ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ، إِلَّا رَجَاءَ أَنْ أَكُونَ مِنْ أَهْلِهَا، قَالَ: فَإِنَّكَ مِنْ أَهْلِهَا قَالَ: فَاخْتَرَجَ تَمَرَاتٍ مِنْ قَرَنِهِ، فَجَعَلَ يَأْكُلُ مِنْهُنَّ، ثُمَّ قَالَ: لَئِنْ أَنَا حَيِيتُ حَتَّى آكُلَ تَمَرَاتِي هَذِهِ إِنَّهَا لَحَيَاةٌ طَوِيلَةٌ، قَالَ: ثُمَّ رَمَى بِمَا كَانَ مَعَهُ مِنَ التَّمْرِ، ثُمَّ قَاتَلَهُمْ حَتَّى قُتِلَ

✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ sent Basbasah as a scout to see what the caravan of Abu Sufyan had done. He came back while there was no one in the house except me and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ - he said: I do not know if he excluded some of his wives - and he told him the news. Then the Messenger of Allah ﷺ went out and spoke, saying: "We have an objective. Whoever has a mount ready, let him ride with us." Some men asked his permission regarding mounts they had in the upper part of Madinah. He said: "No, only those whose mounts are present." The Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his companions set out until they preceded the polytheists to Badr. The polytheists came, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "None of you should advance toward anything until I give him permission." The polytheists drew near, and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "Arise to a Paradise whose width is the heavens and the earth." 'Umayr ibn al-Humam al-Ansari said: "O Messenger of Allah, a Paradise whose width is the heavens and the earth?" He said: "Yes." He said: "Excellent, excellent!" The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: "What prompts you to say 'Excellent, excellent'?" He said: "Nothing, by Allah, O Messenger of Allah, except the hope that I will be among its people." He said: "Indeed, you are among its people." Then he took out some dates from his quiver and began to eat them. Then he said: "If I live long enough to eat these dates of mine, that would be a long life." Then he threw away the dates he had, then fought them until he was killed.
