✧ He mentioned a man among those who passed away—or he said: among those who were before you—then he mentioned a word whose meaning is that God gave him wealth and children. He said: "When death came to him, he said to his sons: 'What kind of father was I to you?' They said: 'The best of fathers.' He said: 'He has never stored up any good with God.'" He said: "Qatadah explained it: 'He did not store up any good with God, and if God has power over him, He will punish him. When I die, burn me until I become charcoal, then crush me'—or he said: 'then grind me'—'then when there is a violent wind, scatter me in it.'" The Prophet of God said: "He took their solemn pledges on that." He said: "They did that, by my Lord. When he died, they burned him, then crushed him—or ground him—then scattered him on a windy day." He said: "Then God said to him: 'Be,' and behold, he was a man standing. God said: 'O My servant, what made you do what you did?' He said: 'O Lord, fear of You'—or 'dread of You.'" He said: "Nothing rescued him except that He had mercy on him. [And on another occasion he said: Nothing rescued him other than that—that He had mercy on him.]"
