✧ Indeed, in Friday there is an hour which no Muslim coincides with while he is in prayer, asking Allah for good, except that He gives it to him. He said: And Abu Hurayrah indicated its shortness with his hand. He said: When Abu Hurayrah died, I said: By Allah, if I were to go to Abu Sa'id and ask him about this hour, that he might have some knowledge of it. So I went to him and found him straightening palm stalks. I said: O Abu Sa'id, what are these palm stalks that I see you straightening? He said: These are palm stalks in which Allah has placed blessing for us. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ used to love them and carry them as a staff, so we would straighten them and bring them to him. He saw spittle in the qiblah of the mosque, and in his hand was a stalk from those palm stalks, so he scraped it off and said: When one of you is in his prayer, let him not spit in front of him, for his Lord [Mighty and Majestic] is in front of him. Let him spit to his left or under his foot. If not—Suraij said: If he finds no place to spit, then into his garment or his sandal. He said: Then the sky became cloudy that night, and when the Prophet ﷺ went out for the last evening prayer, lightning flashed, and he saw Qatadah b. al-Nu'man. He said: What is the night journey, O Qatadah? He said: I knew, O Messenger of Allah, that those attending the prayer would be few, so I wanted to attend it. He said: When you pray, stay put until I come to you. When he finished, he gave him the stalk and said: Take this; it will light up for you ten [paces] in front and ten behind. When you enter the house and see a blackness in a corner of the house, strike it before it speaks, for it is a devil. He said: So he did that, and that is why we love these palm stalks. He said: I said: O Abu Sa'id, Abu Hurayrah
