✧ The Messenger of Allah ﷺ led us in the afternoon prayer one day in daylight, then stood and addressed us until the sun set. He did not leave anything that will happen until the Day of Resurrection except that he told us about it. Those who memorized it memorized it, and those who forgot it forgot it. Among what he said was: O people, the world is green and sweet, and Allah is making you successors in it, so He is watching how you act. Fear the world and fear women. Indeed, every treacherous one will have a banner on the Day of Resurrection according to his treachery, raised near his buttocks with which he will be recompensed. No traitor has a greater banner than a ruler over the common people. Then he mentioned character traits and said: A man may be quick to anger and quick to calm down, so this balances this. A man may be slow to anger and slow to calm down, so this balances this. The best of them is slow to anger and quick to calm down, and the worst of them is quick to anger and slow to calm down. He said: Anger is a live coal in the heart of the son of Adam that burns. Do you not see the redness of his eyes and the swelling of his veins? So if one of you feels that, let him sit down, or he said: let him cling to the ground. Then he mentioned demanding repayment and said: A man may be good in demanding and bad in repaying, so this balances this. A man may be good in repaying and bad in demanding, so this balances this. The best of them is good in demanding and good in repaying, and the worst of them is bad in demanding and bad in repaying. Then he said: People are created in different categories. A man is born a believer, lives a believer, and dies a believer. A man is born a disbeliever, lives a disbeliever, and dies a disbeliever. A man is born a believer, lives a believer, and dies a disbeliever. A man is born a disbeliever, lives a disbeliever, and dies a believer. Then he said in his hadith: Nothing is better than a word of justice spoken before an unjust ruler. Let none of you be prevented by fear of people from speaking the truth when he sees it or witnesses it. Then Abu Sa'id wept and said: By Allah, that has prevented us. Then he said: You will complete seventy nations, and you are the best of them and the most noble to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Then the sun was about to set, and he said: What remains of this world compared to what has passed of it is like what remains of this day of yours compared to what has passed of it.

What scholars said about it

In their own words, as Hadith Unlocked records them. They are shown, not summarised into a grade.

  • Badr al-Dīn al-ʿAynī

    in مسند أحمد, p. 11706
  • Abū ʿAbdullāh al-Ḥākim

    in مسند أحمد, p. 11706
  • Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr

    in مسند أحمد, p. 11706
