حَدَّثَنَا وَكِيعٌ حَدَّثَنَا فِطْرٌ عَنْ إِسْمَاعِيلَ بْنِ رَجَاءٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِعَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ قَالَ

إِنَّ مِنْكُمْ مَنْ يُقَاتِلُ عَلَى تَأْوِيلِهِ كَمَا قَاتَلْتُ عَلَى تَنْزِيلِهِ. قَالَ: فَقَامَ أَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَعُمَرُ فَقَالَ: لَا، وَلَكِنَّهُ خَاصِفُ النَّعْلِ [قَالَ]، وَعَلِيٌّ [ ؓ ] يَخْصِفُ نَعْلَهُ

Translation

Chain of narrators

  4. Abīhiʿan Abū Saʿīd

✧ Among you is one who will fight for its interpretation just as I fought for its revelation. He said: Abu Bakr and 'Umar stood up, and he said: 'No, but it is the one mending the sandal.' He said: And 'Ali ؓ was mending his sandal.
