✧ I heard your father say about the mosque that was established on piety. He said, "My father said: I entered upon the Messenger of Allah ﷺ in the house of one of his wives, so I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, which of the two mosques was established on piety?' So he took a handful of gravel and struck the ground with it, saying, 'This is the Mosque of Madinah.' I said to him, 'I bear witness that I heard your father mention it like this.'"

machine translationʿImrān b. Abī Anas narrates it, and there is disagreement about him. Al-Layth b. Saʿd narrated it from ʿImrān b. Abī Anas, from Ibn Abī Saʿīd, from his father. Abū al-Walīd narrated it from al-Layth, but did not establish its chain. ʿAbdullāh b. ʿĀmir al-Aslamī narrated it from ʿImrān b. Abī Anas, from Sahl b. Saʿd, from Ubayy b. Kaʿb. Rabīʿah b. ʿUthmān al-Taymī and Usāmah b. Zayd differed from him, and narrated it from ʿImrān b. Abī Anas, from Sahl b. Saʿd, from the Prophet ﷺ, without mentioning Ubayy. It seems that the correct statement is that of al-Layth from ʿImrān b. Abī Anas.
