✧ He used to like palm stalks to hold in his hand. He entered the mosque one day with one of them in his hand, and he saw spittle in the qiblah of the mosque, so he scraped them with it until he cleaned them. Then he turned to the people angrily and said: 'Would any of you like a man to face him and spit in his face? When one of you stands to pray, he is facing his Lord, Mighty and Majestic, and the angel is on his right. So let him not spit in front of him or to his right; let him spit under his left foot or to his left. If he is overcome by a sudden urge, then let him do like this,' and he folded part of his garment over another.

machine translationIt is narrated by al-Ḥārith b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. Abī Dhubāb and Muḥammad b. ʿAjlān. There is disagreement about Ibn ʿAjlān: Yaḥyā al-Qaṭṭān, Ibn ʿUyaynah, Khālid b. al-Ḥārith, Abū Khālid al-Aḥmar and Muḥammad b. ʿAbd al-Raḥmān b. al-Mujabbir narrated it from Ibn ʿAjlān, from Nāfiʿ, from Abū Saʿīd. It is gharīb from al-Thawrī; he was singled out in narrating it from him, and it is an error (wahm). The correct version is the hadith of ʿIyāḍ from Abū Saʿīd; the correct version is the hadith of ʿIyāḍ from Abū Saʿīd.
