✧ Narrated by Qatada who met the delegation, Abu Nadrah mentioned that Abu Said said: "When the delegation of Abd al-Qays came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, they said, 'We are from Rabiah, and between us and you are the disbelieving Mudar people. We cannot come to you except during the months of haram (i.e., the sacred months). So, please appoint a matter for us so that when we hold onto it, we will enter Paradise and have it as a means of invoking (Allah) for us. If we are engaged in a matter and we seek help from Allah and invoke Him for it, it will be given to us.' He said, 'I command you to fulfill four matters, and I prohibit you from four things. I command you to worship Allah, and do not associate anything with Him. This is a matter other than the four matters. Establish the prayer, pay the Zakah, observe fasting during Ramadan, and pay the fifth of the war spoils. I prohibit you from four things: from predatory animals, the dumbiyah, the hantam, and the muzaft. They asked, 'What is the dumbiyah?' He said, 'A rooted tree, with its branches removed, then it is thrust into the meat of the livestock, camels, or sheep. Water is then poured into it until it boils, and you then drink from it.' They asked, 'What do you command us to drink?' He replied, 'Water that is stored with a strong rope tied to its neck.' They said, 'Indeed, our land is infested with rats, so no water can remain in it except the water of Al-Udum.' He said, 'If the rats consume it one, two, or three times, it does not matter.' And he said to Ashajj Abd Qays, 'Indeed, you have two qualities that Allah loves: patience and forbearance.'"
