✧ The Messenger of God ﷺ observed iʿtikāf during the middle ten days of Ramadan while he was seeking Laylat al-Qadr before it was made clear to him. When they ended, he ordered his tent to be taken down, so it was dismantled. Then it was made clear to him that it was in the last ten days, so he ordered the tent to be rebuilt, so it was put back up. Then he observed iʿtikāf during the last ten days. Then he came out to the people and said: "O people, Laylat al-Qadr was made clear to me, so I came out to inform you of it. But two men came disputing, and the devil was with them, so I was made to forget it. So seek it in the ninth, the seventh, and the fifth." I said: "O Abū Saʿīd, you know the counting better than we do." He said: "We have more right to that than you. What is the ninth, the seventh, and the fifth?" He said: "You leave the one you call the twenty-first, and the one after it is the ninth. You leave the one you call the twenty-third, and the one after it is the seventh. You leave the one you call the twenty-fifth, and the one after it is the fifth."
