حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللهِ حَدَّثَنَا زَكَرِيَّا بْنُ يَحْيَى زحْمَوَيْهِ حَدَّثَنَا عُمَرُ بْنُ مُجَاشِعٍ عَنْ أَبِي إِسْحَاقَ عَنْ عَبْدِ خَيْرٍ
سَمِعْتُ عَلِيًّا يَقُولُ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ: خَيْرُ هَذِهِ الْأُمَّةِ بَعْدَ نَبِيِّهَا أَبُو بَكْرٍ، وَعُمَرُ، وَلَوْ شِئْتُ أَنْ أُسَمِّيَ الثَّالِثَ لَسَمَّيْتُهُ، فَقَالَ رَجُلٌ لِأَبِي إِسْحَاقَ: إِنَّهُمْ يَقُولُونَ: إِنَّكَ تَقُولُ: أَفْضَلُ فِي الشَّرِّ ؟ فَقَالَ: أَحَرُورِيٌّ ؟

✧ I heard Ali say on the pulpit: 'The best of this ummah after its Prophet is Abu Bakr, then Umar, and if I wished I could name the third.' A man said to Abu Ishaq: 'They say that you say: He is more excellent in evil?' He said: 'Are you a Haruri (Kharijite)?'
