✧ I wrestled with a boy in Makkah, and he bit my ear and cut part of it, or I bit his ear and cut part of it. When Abu Bakr came to us as a pilgrim, we were brought to him, and he said: “Take them both to Umar b. al-Khattab. If the one who wounded is old enough for retaliation to be taken from him, let him retaliate.” He said: When we were brought to Umar, he looked at us and said: “Yes, this one is old enough for retaliation. Call a cupper for me.” When he mentioned the cupper, he said: “Indeed, I heard the Messenger of Allah ﷺ say: I gave my maternal aunt a slave boy, and I hope Allah blesses her in him, and I forbade her from making him a cupper, a butcher, or a goldsmith.”

machine translationIbn Abī Ḥātim said, from his father: ʿAlī b. Mājidah al-Sahmī narrated from ʿUmar, which is a mursal report. It is possible that the kunyah of ʿAlī b. Mājidah was Abū Mājidah, in which case both narrations would be sound.

    in مسند أحمد, p. 102
